On Location
Long before Anna Tobin's path crosses with Armando Ruiz in SHADOW of DESCENT, she's alone in a remote corner of Huatulco, Mexico, trying to outrun a life of isolation and sorrow. I wanted her to run a route I could actually stand on myself, so that's exactly what I did.
Anna's daily loop covers seven miles, out from Tangolunda Bay to Santa Cruz and back again. Somewhere along that stretch, a small footbridge carries the path over a freshwater stream on its way to the bay. Its trusses arch overhead like a tunnel of steel, the kind of structure you'd walk past without a second thought. Anna didn't walk past it.
Twice a day, she'd pass beneath those beams and lift her hands overhead, half convinced the bridge held some quiet power over whatever she was carrying that day. She gave it a name of her own: Inspiration Bridge. She never told a soul.
