A few weeks ago, research for the next SHADOW novel took us to Mexico City, one of the settings where Reed Jackson and Joseph Johnson will put their particular set of talents to work.
Just writing that sentence might make you think, "Are you crazy?" Mexico City is a sprawling metropolis of more than twenty million people, sitting at an elevation over seven thousand feet above sea level. The city is divided into sixteen boroughs and over three hundred neighborhoods. The ones we explored reminded me of neighborhoods north of Chicago, great restaurants, young people, and families enjoying the parks, with the cool vibe of city life.
The photo above is from one of the restaurants we picked out in the neighborhood of Condesa. Mexico City is known as a top foodie destination, and this small cafe didn't disappoint. Its name: Milos. Yes, the same name as the Greek island a few posts back. We didn't plan that. Some coincidences are too good not to mention.
Like any big city, Mexico City has its edges, and that element of real danger is exactly what a good SHADOW adventure needs. It's the perfect backdrop for Reed Jackson and Joseph Johnson to give readers what they've come to expect.
